The proclamation of the death of God is usually perceived as the liberation of the Center that guaranteed meaning. However, true nihilism is not a philosophical thesis that can be logically refuted. It is existential deafness. When a subject becomes indifferent to the very category of truth, logic loses its object of attack. The game of forces continues, but the rules no longer matter because they do not describe reality, but merely serve comfort. We are accustomed to thinking that everything is an interpretation, but if the will to interpret becomes total, it turns into a despotic surrogate of the Center itself. We have not freed ourselves from idols – we have merely made the act of creation itself an idol, elevating creativity to the place of the empty throne.
The call for a revaluation of values contains a hidden trap: “generating structure from within” is merely another metaphysics of the subject. By appropriating the right to create form, we borrow a supra-formal position – we become gods on the ashes. This new absolute is even more dangerous than the old one, for it has no external constraint other than the weariness of the bearer himself. Nihilism is not darkness – it is light of such intensity that it burns out the very possibility of seeing the contours of things. In this blinding field, structure becomes necessary for thinking, but it is no longer innocent. It appears as a cognitive prosthesis – an instrument of consciousness survival that can be modified but cannot be discarded without immediate self-destruction.
A world without meaning is possible, but a world without form is not. Yet this form is no longer a home or a refuge; it is a cage that we are forced to build daily so as not to dissolve into the chaos toward which we feel only ontological indifference. Honesty after the death of any guarantees consists in accepting this structure without the promise of salvation and without the illusion of one’s own demiurgic power. We have not defeated nihilism – we have merely fixed it as an insurmountable crack in the very foundation of our vertical. Thinking today is not a path to wholeness, but exhausting labor within this crack. It is the holding of the Axis at the moment when you know for certain: it is held together only by your despair, not by the laws of the universe.
