Silhouette

76

A body divides the bed in half.
Early light strikes the parquet.
The bedding has crept aside.
Pressed into the sheets, a silhouette.

A step wanders by the couch.
The leash froze, hooked.
The emptiness is clean, immaculate.
The world is clamped shut.

Sight registers the familiar door,
The scattered food lies untouched.
A shadow froze on the wallpaper.
The space no longer trembles.

The hands shape the familiar cup.
Fingers clenched in the dark.
They remember the mass taken away.
Clasped now upon themselves.
